Make Digital Cameras Weatherproof

If you plan to take your digital camera with you on vacation or anywhere else you may be going, it’s important to learn to make it weatherproof. You never know when the opportunity will arise for a great photo so it’s a good idea to always have your digital camera handy. Many people fear their expensive camera will get damaged so they leave it at home and then miss out on these opportunities.

When you learn to weatherproof your digital camera, you do not have to worry as much about it getting damaged when you take it out with you. It’s important to note that extreme temperatures such as hot and cold can damage your camera. Leaving it inside a hot car or taking it out into a snowy day without weatherproofing is very dangerous to the camera.

You most likely invested a lot of money into your digital camera and you don’t want to ruin it or have the expense of replacing it. Your first step should be to purchase a sturdy camera bag if your camera didn’t come with one. If you take your camera places where it can get knocked around you will want to be sure your camera bag is padded to protect the camera from jolts or drops.

Getting caught in the rain with your digital camera can also be a problem. When you know you might be out in the rain, you can cover the camera with a plastic bag and cut a hole in the bag in the right size to fit the lens. Some people like to carry small bags in their camera bag to help with such an occasion.

Another way to weatherproof your camera is to use a UV filter to help your protect the camera’s lens. A skylight or UV filter will protect the camera from damage caused by intense UV rays. This keeps your lens in good shape so it continues to work properly for you for many years. Replacing a camera’s lens can be expensive and in some cases it can be cheaper to buy a new camera whether than replace the lens. You can avoid this with simple protection and weatherproofing.

If you must leave your camera in a hot room or vehicle (for a short time), you can cover it with a light colored towel or cloth to help protect it from the sun and heat. Remember that dark colors will just absorb the heat more and should be avoided.

It’s also important to protect your camera from condensation and freezing. Intense cold will damage the lenses and the function of the camera. You can place your camera under your jacket or sweater and close to your body heat to keep it warm while out in cold weather.

These simple tips will help you weatherproof your digital camera and protect it so it lasts much longer for you. You will get more for your money and the best quality photos possible.
