What is the best type of lens to buy for digital cameras . . . ?

I have a Kodak and a Minolta and I am wanting to buy wide & tele lens for both. The telephoto lens will be mainly used at sporting events, so speed is important too. Any suggestions on brand, type, etc. Both cameras are Point n Shoot, hopefully I can find some good lens to hold me over until I get a dSLR.

A point & shoot camera is not going to be good enough for sports photography, mainly because their lenses and performance are much too slow.
Sorry, but you really will need a dSLR and reasonably fast lens, so I advise you not to waste your money on buying converter lenses for your point & shoot cameras (if they can even accept them) and save up for a dSLR with the appropriate lens.
